A precision CNC stainless steel design made in collaboration with @Alinktotao (Tao). Tao has been making high quality sticks for the scene for a while and we collaborated to bring some of the most innovative ideas to the table in a single package. The stick features a unique adjustment system allowing you to adjust how it feels and the values it produces. This means the user can customize the stick to their specific use case and feel.
We changed up the cap design to feature a unique tongue and groove system to better support the cap and reduce it coming loose during game play.
The stick includes an injection molded cap made from a blend of carbon fiber and polycarbonate. The materials along with the knurling offer improved grip as compared to OEM. I've dubbed this cap the Evolution cap.
The stick uses a smaller M2 bolt to secure the cap to the stick. If you want to use another cap from another maker, such a Tao cap or a SS64 cap, there is a M3 to M2 adapter kit which comes with every stick.
Included with the stick is a pom nib. Its recommended you use a steel bowl with this stick. We have a nib kit which we plan to offer as part of a future offering.
The stick features a unique taper which engages the notches nicely on both OEM gates and the Renaissance gate, discussed below.
Overall performance is excellent with smooth gameplay, excellent benchmarks and superior feel to OEM. Users will be required to bring their own encoder wheels, encoder pcb, spring, lower housing and gears (all of which can be harvested from an OEM module).
Example benchmarks are provided to demonstrate the results these parts are capable of producing.

The stick feels amazing to use. One thing I love about it is that you can adjust the sensitivity of the Joystick just by using the little Allen Wrench provided with the stick. It's a game changer and definitely a must have if you're an N64 enthusiast like me.
I always heard good things about tao steel stick and i never had one before, this is absolutely insane in terms of feels with the gate but also in engineering with his adjusting nibs. If you want it as tight as possible or a little bit loose, it's possible !
The Tao V4 stick is a game changer. It can be hit or miss with other sticks when is comes to fitting different metal bowls. There are a handful now but having the ability to adjust the nib is crucial. Not just for fitment but feel. Rocker sells his own bowl and the Tao V4 fits well with it as expected. Although you don't have to pair it with a rocker bowl to make it work which is good. You still need a metal bowl in general though. It's not meant for a plastic bowl.
There's also an improvement in the side guide rails over the Tao V3. They are more open so the stick goes into the notches every time without force. You may feel less notch if you have a worn gate but there is no resistance getting there.
I'm really happy with the V4. I'm not a speedrunner so I'm not looking for perfection but with the right setup it can be used for that. The feel is what I'm most happy about.
Expensive, but I love the engineering of it. A little tricky when I was trying to get it going, was clicking internally when moving around the bowl, but now that I worked those kinks out it's good. I want to try the special high grip thumb caps on RockerGaming with it! My main problem with the purchase, is not with the stick or features, it is that there are 2 of these EXTREMELY SMALL rubber washers that right off the bat I lost one lmao. Why are we paying over $100 and they do not contain extras of these .01 cent pieces that's criminally easy to lose? This is a Tao problem, not a RockerGaming problem. The Tao box came with 4 different thumb caps that you could swap in: clear smooth, clear knurled, black smooth, black knurled. The problem is that you unscrew the cap and 2 tiny ass rubber washers want to JUMP OUT. Like, I eventually found the lost washer (thank f.... god ...... Honey I Shrunk The Kids anyone?) but there should be a little bag with like 5 of each of these. Seriously. Realistically it's a niche product. I want to keep this until I'm in my 60s. It's part art, part function. Also no instructions for changing thumb cap. You put the screw through the thumb cap, then put the washer on the screw so it's in between the stick and the cap. aka Screw > Cap > Washer > Stick. (At first I had Screw > Washer > Cap > stick and the cap unscrewed itself after some usage)
