The gate looks really cool and I like how they have a clear option so you can see how the joystick works inside. The notches on the gate feel great as well. My only gripe about the gate is that it doesn't use the Small Phillips Head Screw anymore and is replaced with a small Allen Head screw which I found more difficult to work with.
The N64 is gate is more important than many people think. Depending on the game they don't always wear evenly. This really takes away from the notch feel and can affect you're angles. This gate is a good way to refresh your controller.
I've had the privilege of testing other gates such as the original Rocker resin cast gate. The idea was there but it's very difficult to make those consistently. Injection molded was needed to strengthen the gate. Different materials can offer less resistance also.
After using the gate for some time I'm extremely happy with it. As with anything that is injection molded there will be some variance. Even a brand new N64 controller may not have the perfect gate. Although with the three Rocker gates I have I can tell you they are more consistent than oem. The notch feel is fantastic. I've paired my three gates with two Tao V4s and a Koomba Titanium stick. They all feel great.
They also look great. I'm hoping he comes out with more colors.
I used steel sticks for months and the one main issues i had with OEM gate was the lack of notches feels which is very bad for speedrunning games like sm64. With this gate, combined with the tao stick v4, i can always say which notches I'm in. It's undescribable how good the gate is
These gates are super high quality and will not disappoint! If your OEM gate is worn these are a must have! I have both black and clear and look just as amazing as they function!
No clue what this is for in practice. I bought it as part of the full Renaissance N64 Kit (stick/gate/bowl). The instructions say you can slightly pivot/rotate the gate but you cannot. My benchmarks indicate I should rotate it a degree but I can't. Once you put the upper gate on the lower, it's locked into a channel and that's that. I guess if you need a new upper or lower gate get this. 3/10, unrealized benefits? I didn't need it. Ignorance is bliss. I'd have rather spent the money on the Gravitas thumb cap.
